The weekend five in Houston: August 21-23
Football, baseball, comedy, and two nights of live music. Houston's weekend is a messy, beautiful contradiction—and we're here for it.
Houston doesn't do subtle. This weekend, the city throws a preseason football game, a baseball clash, a comedy show in Spanish, and two very different concerts at you. Pick your poison, or try to do it all. Just don't expect to sleep.
1 · Houston Texans v Las Vegas Raiders: Preseason (Friday)
Friday night, the Texans take on the Raiders in a preseason game that's less about winning and more about watching the backups fight for a roster spot. The stadium might be half empty, but the energy is real—especially if you're a fan of brutal hits and questionable play-calling. It's football, but with training wheels.
2 · BRENN! - AMATEUR AT BEST WORLD TOUR (Friday)
Also on Friday, BRENN! brings his 'Amateur at Best' world tour to the Bronze Peacock. Expect a sweaty, intimate set where the line between performer and audience blurs. He's loud, he's raw, and he's not here to be polite. If you want a show that feels like a friend's basement gig but with better sound, this is it.
3 · Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels (Thursday)
Thursday, the Astros host the Angels at Daikin Park. It's a divisional matchup that might not matter in the standings, but it's a chance to see some of the game's best hitters in a park that's become a hitter's paradise. Grab a hot dog, find your seat, and let the crack of the bat do the talking.
4 · Chris Andrade: M.U.T.A.R (en Español) (Thursday)
Also on Thursday, Chris Andrade performs 'M.U.T.A.R' in Spanish at Punch Line Houston. It's a comedy show that's unapologetically bilingual, mixing sharp observations with cultural references that hit home for anyone who grew up in a Latinx household. Andrade doesn't hold back, and the room will be laughing in both languages.
5 · Lavi Bly, In The Attic, Whisk, Whitehaven (Saturday)
Saturday night, White Oak Music Hall's upstairs room hosts a four-band bill: Lavi Bly, In The Attic, Whisk, and Whitehaven. It's a grab bag of local and touring acts, each bringing their own flavor—from indie rock to post-punk. The upstairs is intimate, so you'll feel every chord. Come for the discovery, stay for the sweat.
See you there. no te limites.
