La Suite Italienne de Stravinsky, un arreglo para violoncello y piano de fragmentos del ballet Pulcinella (1919), evoca temas de Pergolesi, compositor italiano del siglo XVIII, desde una perspectiva moderna. Aquí, Stravinsky ofrece una síntesis entre tradición e innovación, llena de humor y fantasía. Heitor Villa-Lobos, compositor cuya música encarna el espíritu de Brasil, se vio influenciado por la naturaleza. El Canto del Cisne Negro es una etérea y melancólica representación lírica del legendario cisne negro, cuyo canto lúgubre, según el mito, anuncia sus últimos momentos antes de la muerte.
